Australian commercial, trust, and corporate law is a direct continuation of English common-law principles, modernised by parliamentary statute in each state but anchored in the same caselaw foundation that international counsel and their counterparties have worked under for over a century. The High Court of Australia continues to treat decisions of the English appellate courts as persuasive authority, and the legal vocabulary translates almost without footnote between the two systems. Counsel familiar with English trust or company doctrine require minimal translation when navigating their Australian equivalents.
